Brief Bio
Born and raised on a lake in Minnesota, Ian George’s musical expression (both on and off the stage) reflects the ephemeral seasonal landscapes he was bred in.
After a handful of years leading a grass-roots activist group and running an off-grid cannabis farm in rural Oregon, George founded and led a string of bands (some including members of Billy Strings and Caleb Klauder Band); touring extensively through the US, Canada, and Europe and gracing some of the western world's most beloved festivals and venues with Patchy Sanders and then Fellow Pynins. In the summer of 2018 Ian performed his debut solo set at the Cambridge Folk Festival in Cambridge, England. In 2019, Ian released his debut solo album Kingdom of My Youth - recorded in Paris, France at famed Labo M Studios with French pop icon Matthieu Chedid. The album charted on the national NACC Folk charts 7 consecutive weeks. Ian’s track, Post-Corona*, was shortlisted at WXPN’s 2021 Non-Comm Convention as top 10 songs of the year to consider. 2024 brings the release of his sophomore album - A FAIR - a 12 track collaboration with acclaimed producer Shane Leonard.
“Weirdly beautiful and a gorgeous voice.”
- THE CURRENT (MPR)
“Ian George is a fanciful folk troubadour with a rhythmic flow and spirited vision. He’s an American Matt Corby; a heartwarming blend of Iron & Wine’s folk and Vampire Weekend’s frisky energy. George’s music is the type to which one would ascribe words like frolic and wandering, but his songs are equally intimate and emotional... Worthy of everyone’s ears, songs we can teach our children, our parents, our grandparents, and ourselves.”

Lyrics
gone the english word for never getting back
what you have loved but after the fact
i was a fool at the wrong time
never again will she be mine
damn did i exchange a true lover for
the jubilee in hopes of something more
i’d hit the road with a low level folk band
through the midwest in a shitty van
gone the one i call my love
gone the one i call my faye
it is hard to know what matters most
when you’re caught up in it all
if there’s anything i’ve ever known
it is good to know what you’ve got before it’s gone
word the english word all clever in a line
adorned with a tune then i sung it in perfect rhythm
i did look at her the entire time
not ballad nor poem could change her mind
gone the one i call my love
gone the one i call my faye
it is hard to know what matters most
when you’re caught up in it all
if there’s anything i've ever known
it is good to know what you’ve got before it’s gone
gone the one i call my love
gone the one i call my faye
it’s hard to know what matters most
when you’re caught up in it all
If there’s anything i’ve ever known
it is good to know what you’ve got before it’s gone
