Ian George releases new single -
Post-Corona*
May 7, 2021
about the track
"Here's a whimsical track (definitely the most cheeky song I've ever written) inspired by the strict lock-downs of March/April 2020 and the unsettling initial chapter of our global pandemic. I wrote this song mid-March last year and continuously changed lines of each verse accordingly and we slipped deeper into the oblivion of uncertainty. The band and I had some 70 shows cancelled last spring/summer and they were to be our first tour-shows as an ensemble. I relocated from the Twin Cities to a rural communal farm in Oregon mid-April to try my hand at building a couple tiny houses when it became clear we were gonna be in this thing for a good spell. Since the band and I didn't get that chance to share our newly arranged frothing folk-rock songs with the world before I dipped west I felt compelled to make sure this Post-Corona* track be recorded by the Twin Cities quartet and exclusively with the quartet to encapsulate the vibe we had established over the course of the previous year. So, this track was languidly worked on and arranged remotely over the course of summer/fall/winter 2020 in the rare moments when I wasn't feeling completely overwhelmed with "the build." We tossed ideas back and forth via email for a few months, Voice Memos and all that. Bass and drums were recorded live in Eau Claire, WI, then Patrick home recorded his electric guitars in Minneapolis, MN and then I laid down acoustic and vocals at a friend's home studio in Ashland, OR.
I image the narrator of the track (living in a large east coast city) has recently fallen in love with someone living out west on some spacious, shall we say "hippie commune(?)". I really hear all the verses probably spoken aloud as he prunes in a luke warm bathtub in some dismal bathroom scene. By the end of the song he's been in that tub for probably three months.." - Ian George

“Dreamy musical landscapes and a gorgeous voice.” ~ The Current (MPR)
“Ian George is a fanciful folk troubadour with a rhythmic flow and spirited vision. He’s an American Matt Corby; a heartwarming blend of Iron & Wine’s folk and Vampire Weekend’s frisky energy. George’s music is the type to which one would ascribe words like frolic and wandering, but his songs are equally intimate and emotional... Worthy of everyone’s ears, songs we can teach our children, our parents, our grandparents, and ourselves.” ~ Atwood Magazine
